Marco…polo! Just like the explorer thought he found treasure when he arrived in China, so will you when arrive at Marco Island. About 30 minutes south of Naples, the waters may not be as clear, but the sandy shores stretch for miles without the crowds of Clearwater.

Although pricey, the best place we dined at was the Ario in the Marriott resort hotel. Octopus grilled a la plancha had the perfect char with threads of saffron, chorizo cubes, and pickled slivers of daikon.  The Marriott resort itself is site to behold with decor that is reminiscent of the beautiful Kona woodwork of Hawaiian resorts. It of course boasts the fine cuisine of Ario, but also has a arcade bowling alley,  “10k alley”, that has a diverse selection of bourbon,  whiskey (including the elusive Pappy Van Winkle),  and craft beer.
